Good festival lighting isn't created during setup, but before it. We survey the site digitally on location, plan every fixture, every beam and every cable run in our software and show you in 3D visualisations how colours and lighting moods will look at night – so everything fits on setup day.
1On site
During the site visit we mark everything that matters directly on the aerial image: areas, pathways, stages, trees, entrances and exits as well as power sources. That way we work with the real site from day one – not with assumptions.
2Digital lighting concept
The survey becomes a 3D model of the site. In it we position every fixture, define colour, intensity and beam angle and plan cable runs, distribution boards and DMX control – shown here for MS Dockville.
3Visualisation
Before anything is built, you see the result: in the 3D night view we try out colour palettes, brightness levels and lighting moods for trees, areas and pathways – in real time, at eye level and for any time of day. That way we agree on the concept together instead of guessing.
We light large festival areas so that all key zones have pleasant base illumination – without glare. Indirect light on trees and buildings creates atmosphere, while distinct colour zones aid orientation and coordination.
We avoid dark zones, ensure safe pathways and design chill-out areas with soft light where guests feel at ease.
Custom-made pathway lights, mains- or battery-powered – e.g. lanterns – mark pathways and entrance areas.
With floodlights we highlight handrails and paths so visitors can orient themselves easily and navigate the site safely.
We design entire stages and dance floors: developing colour and lighting concepts with you, matching them to the area and your branding, and getting your go-ahead for the final setup.
We supply the equipment, build custom fixtures, stands and structures, set everything up and support the floor throughout the festival.
Bespoke elements are secured to regulation, so everything stays stable, safe and ready for use.
We develop bespoke fixtures, installations and light shows that create their own experience spaces away from the main stages. By “shows” we mean automated sequences that run throughout the festival – with matching music or ambient sound on request.
We program the lighting moods to suit your setting and run automatically throughout the festival; we look after them on site.

Complete outdoor lighting and light installations for one of the largest independent festivals in northern Germany.
MS Dockville is a music and arts festival in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg that brings together around 50,000 visitors each year over several days on its sprawling site in the Reiherstieg district, right on the Elbe. Alongside music on numerous stages, Dockville combines art, installations and urban culture in a unique way.
For the festival organisers it was essential to light the entire outdoor site professionally – not only for visitor safety, but also to maintain and amplify the festival's special atmosphere after dark.
Over a period of three years we were responsible for the complete outdoor lighting of the MS Dockville festival site – around 20,000 square metres in total. The scope included:
Base lighting for the entire site including food areas, chill-out zones and connecting paths. Custom-made pathway lights and lanterns for safe visitor orientation. The design of several stages, each with its own colour concept and lighting matched to the respective area.
In addition, we realised several stand-alone light installations that were presented as part of the artistic line-up – including interactive light objects and programmed light shows that ran automatically throughout the festival.
Working together across three festival editions has shown that professional outdoor lighting makes a substantial contribution to the festival atmosphere. Visitors and organisers alike saw the light installations as a highlight, and they significantly enriched the overall artistic concept of MS Dockville.
